How to read this
The Bula Pass is sold as a wallet-sized paper ticket at the Sunbeam Hotel depot in Nadi town and at the Suva bus station on Edward Street. It is one physical booklet per traveller — non-transferable, photo-checked on long-haul coaches — and gives unlimited rides for seven calendar days on the Sunbeam and Express networks. One pass per person, no group concession.
The break-even rule of thumb: a single Suva–Nadi fare is FJD 35 (FJD 40 senior), so a return already costs FJD 70–80 — which is within FJD 10–20 of a Bula Pass. Add even one side trip from Nadi to Sigatoka (FJD 12) and the pass wins outright. If your itinerary is one straight return, the pass rarely pays off below seven days.
Where the calculator gets conservative: it uses the corridor single-fare as posted at the station, not the on-bus cash fare (which can be 10% higher if the conductor sells to a tourist who has not asked). Senior surcharge of 15% is built in. Children under 12 ride free on most lines when accompanied; this tool assumes paying seats.
Where to physically buy: the Sunbeam depot at the Sunbeam Hotel on Nadi back road (cash only), the Express counter at Suva bus station on Edward Street (EFTPOS), and — increasingly — the Suva Market Street agents. They don't sell passes at Denarau.
Overnight buses do not run. The last Suva–Nadi coach leaves Suva at around 16:30 and Nadi at 17:30; sleeping on the bus is not an option, which is why the tool does not price sleeper fares.
What this tool is NOT for
- Not for Yasawa or Mamanuca ferries. Those are separate operators (South Sea Cruises, Awesome Adventures, Yasawa Flyer) out of Denarau. The Bula Pass covers Sunbeam/Express buses only.
- Not for village-to-village ferries. The small fibreglass launches between coastal settlements on Vanua Levu are run by the iTaukei Affairs provincial councils and have their own fares.
- Not a real-time schedule. Buses leave when full or on the depot's whim. A Bula Pass won't get you on a bus that doesn't exist.
- Not valid on chartered coaches. Resort transfers (e.g. from Denarau to Shangri-La) are run by Pacific Transport or similar and are not part of the Bula Pass network.
- Not a guarantee of a seat on weekends. Friday-evening Suva–Lautoka coaches are standing-room in late July. Easter week is chaos. The calculator doesn't know the date.
FAQ
Can I share one pass between my partner and me?
No. The Bula Pass is non-transferable and the photo page is checked on long-haul coaches. Buy two passes if two of you want unlimited rides.
Does the Bula Pass work on the Coral Coast / Pacific Harbour express?
Yes — the Express coaches along the Queens Road between Nadi and Suva accept it. Local Sunbeam minibuses around Sigatoka and Pacific Harbour also honour it, but only on routes operated by Sunbeam or Express.
What about the Lautoka–Nadi shuttle?
The Lautoka–Nadi minibus is run by Sunbeam, runs late into the evening, and is Bula-Pass-valid. It is the cheapest FJD 12 ride in the country and is a common way to combine a Bula Pass with a day trip from Denarau.
Do students actually get a discount?
On single fares, no formal student discount exists. On the Bula Pass, the Sunbeam counter sometimes sells a "student Bula Pass" at the same FJD 89 price — it's the same product, the same adult fare.
Is the senior surcharge 15% or 25%?
15% is the standard Sunbeam/Express published senior surcharge on single fares. Some charter and resort operators apply 25% — those are not Bula-Pass-valid. This calculator uses the published 15%.
