Operator-level rules
  • Bull-shark feeding is baited & licensed — only at two designated sites
  • No touching sharks, no gloves-with-bait, no flash photography
  • Briefing is 25 min — don't skip; bait-handling protocol is procedural
  • Refusal of a diver for poor buoyancy is normal, not rude
What a perfect day looks like
  • Early-morning boat (≤ 8 divers per guide)
  • Brief shark dive, then a "non-feeding" reef dive for the rest
  • Surface interval on the boat, lunch included
  • Backup site chosen that morning by the dive-master based on current/vis

How to read the match score

Match score is 0–100. Three things pull it down:

Above 70 → go book. 50–70 → ask the operator. Below 50 → wrong site for you.

FAQ

Is shark diving safe in Beqa?

Yes, statistically: no fatal incidents in Beqa Lagoon feeding dives since the baited protocol began in the 1990s. Bull sharks at the feeding site are habituated, not "tame". Maintain the kneeling position, keep hands in front of you, follow the dive-master's hand signals. A guide refuses divers with poor buoyancy — that's a good sign.

Can I dive Beqa on Open Water?

Some non-feeding sites yes (e.g. Frigates Passage at 18 m). The bull-shark feeding sites run 18–22 m and most operators accept AOW; some accept OW with a deep-orientation check dive. Below OW (no cert) → no.

How much does it cost?

FJD 350–550 for a 2-tank shark day (Beqa Lagoon Resort / Aqua-Trek / Sea Harmony published rates 2024–2026). Pacific Harbour-based operators are FJD 250–400 for a single-tank shark encounter.

What's the best month?

Tiger-shark sightings: Oct – early Dec and Apr – May. Bull sharks: year-round. Visibility best: Apr – Sep. Cyclone risk Dec – Apr. See our Month × Activity Grid.
